Shots of filming

Above all are the images in which I took when I was filming Charlie singing to the song I have chosen for my video. This was also where I was filmed being a 'prostitute', and thought it would be a good idea if he was in the same places I was singing.

Filming

Yesterday, I started to come to an end with the filming of the video, as I have already got loads of it done. Tomorrow, I will be shooting the last bit and hope that it is a succesfull day with the shooting. It will only be myself and Charlie at these filming scenes as we are the only two characters in the video.

Process of make-up

Adding a little bit of eyeliner

Starts to get darker

Dark and puffy
We decided to give Charlie really dark and puffy eyes so that he came across to people in the video as living a rough life doing drugs, smoking and drinking alcohol. I think that his eyes look effective and work well with the video.

Making a bruised arm
In order to make a bruised arm my Mum had to use a red pen and a green eye pencil. She decided to do it right near where the injection would be inserted into the arm and I think it looks really effective.

Shooting video

Last night, I carried on shooting bits to my music video. The location of this was in a tower block of flats, Hawkwell House Gosfield Road. I thought that the filming was very successful as when I got home I replayed what had been shot and thought it was what I wanted it to look like.

Props; the props used in this part of the filming was the staircase of the flats. I got Charlie who was recording it to focus in on my hands sliding down the sides of the handles. I then got a low angle mid shot of me walking down the stairs paying a lot of attention to my face as I wanted my facial expressions to be shown.

Clothes; last night and the previous time I filmed, I made sure that the clothing I was wearing wasn't that appealing, I tried to make it come across as a  bit too revealing and grotty. I had several holes in my tights, with a fair few ladders in them. I had big gold and black hoopy earings in with bright red lipstick. This bright red lipstick could portray something sexual or something to do with blood.

Ed Sheeran- The A Team

Above is an excellent screen shot that I got whilst watching the Ed Sheeran video- The A Team. Because I like this section of the video so much last night I decided to try and do my own version of this.

Filming

Last not I was actually able to start shooting my music video. After replaying back the bits we had shot I thought that it went really well.

Arctic Monkeys - When the Sun Goes Down

This is also another video in which was described to me that basically portrays what I want to portray in my music video. I like the fact that the whole situation about prostitution is grotty and everything in the video is grotty itself.

Above is an image that I screen grabbed from the video and thought it was a great example to show whilst trying to express what I feel about this video. As you can see, the building they are standing in front of looks as though it's been involved in a fire and the pavements and colouring of the screen is really dark and gloomy.

Ed Sheeran- The A Team

Above is a youtube clip of Ed Sheeran's song 'The A Team'. The reason I have decided to put this on my blog is due to the fact that whilst getting ideas together about what I could for the story of my video, someone I know come up with an idea that similarised my ideas with Ed Sheeran's song. After looking at the whole clip I can see where this person is coming from and thought that this video was very good. I will therefore use my own ideas however I think that after looking how effective it was in black and white, I will do the same either throughout the video or at certain points.

Mood Board

Above is the mood board I created to express the different moods and aspects that will be presented in my music video. Therefore, as you can see there are various pictures of drugs and injections into the arm.  This is saying that the whole story is basically based on the abuse of alcohol and drugs which results in prostitution and the break up of a deteriorated relationship.

There is an image of red lips as well, this is expressing either a violent aspect or flirty and in this case it relates to the prostitution in which the girl performs in order to receive money for her boyfriend so that he can get his supply. This also relates to the gold hoopy earings in which the girl wears when she goes out to put herself on the streets, and by wearing these I want her to be portrayed as a bit of a slapper and a bit cheap.

In addition to this, there are two pictures which represent love, 'Together Forever' and 'I was in love with you' and these two represent the fact that once upon a time this couple were in love with each other until a further addition was added to the relationship, alcohol and drugs. This therefore deteriorates their relationship and ends up in heart ache.

Locations

Here are several images of locations that will be used and seen in my music video;

The reason I chose to set 'Hawkwell House' as one of my locations was because, the actual building itself looks a bit grotty and not very pleasant. Therefore, in my video I want to convey dirtyness from the girl going out and having it off with men for money and therefore thought this building could help express it.

Images of Props

Here are images that I took of the main props for the video;

Empty beer cans and bottles
These will be placed around a matress in which has been laid in the corner of the room. They will show that Charlie is a bit of an alcoholic, as messy.

A belt used for injecting in the arm
This belt will be tied around Charlie's arm, in order for him to be able to inject himself with drugs.

Lighters
These lighters are used to light up the cigarettes in which have been left in the ashtray.

Tin foil
The foil is used to wrap up the flour in which looks like drugs this will also be laid out on the bed.

Cigarettes and ashtrays

Flour in tin foil to represent dugs

Animatic

This is the story board in which I created which gives the basic idea of what my music video will be about. In each clip, the amount of seconds the shot lasts for is included in which also gives a basic summary of how long it will last for altogether. Even if my music video is not exactly the same as this, I have shown that I've come up with a lot of ideas and not all but most will be shown in the final product.

Information on The Colours- Tonight I Let You Go

The Colours
Above is a picture of the boy band 'The Colours' which are an unsigned band group in which have released a song called 'Tonight I Let You Go', and this is the song in which I have chosen to use for my music video song.

I decided to go onto unsigned.com to find out some information on the band I have picked.

Band Members
This song is packed with energy and vigour, it has a tempo and beat that is very effective. The lyrics to the song offer a lament to a broken down relationship, in which provides the bitter-sweet twist which is the requirement of many good songs. It shows the trials of the heart in the formative years, the movement from one relationship to the other in words. However, it is not a soppy love story as it is actually far from it. Displaying a brave face on the inner dicomfort exposed within the lyrics it expresses darker issues.
  • Tom Pickford - Vocals, Keys, Guitar
  • Tom Newman - Bass, Synthesizers, Backing Vocals
  • Tony Folland - Drums, Sequencing, Percussion

Audience Research

When I had finally chosen the song that I wanted to use for my music video, I wanted to find out what people thought of it and if they had any criticism to give about it. Therefore, in order to do this I decided to choose several different people, I then played the song to them and asked them different questions and asked them to write them down on the postage notes provided; the questions I asked were;

  1. What comes into your head when you hear the song?
  2. What other artists can they be compared to?
Below are two sets of postages notes in which I took pictures of in order to show the process took place and hear are my results:

Feedback from question 1:

Above are four separate postage notes that was written by four participants writing their feedback. As you can see,  they are all very similar as they are to do with the same subject; when asked after writing their thoughts the participants had quoted that it sounded like a relationship but in a song.

Feedback from question 2:
Again there are four separate postage notes, all stating who the participant thinks the band sound like. Even though they are a band, it doesn't mean they cannot be compared to solo artists however these people think they can be compared to other bands. It was also stated that the song, was quite slow moving and depressing and some of the artists above songs are very similar such as the 'Dilemma' and 'Blow it Up'.

Lyrics to the song- Tonight I Let You Go

Your empty promises
Stop filling up my mind while my loves’ away
Temptation calls me
To thisAnd loveless fools believe
Their guilty hearts still bleed
But their cold lifeless heart beats wear them out

[Chorus] Cause you’re the heart break that I couldn’t deal with
You were the mistake
That no-one could save me from
But I knowI’m better off leaving now
You are the only reason I want it more
You know I want to be on my own tonight
I just keep on running
You know I want to be on my own tonight
Tonight I let you go

My insecurities
Playing on my mind, colours never change
You should come back, come back, come back(And look for more)
But love that runs too deep
Stolen moments we couldn’t keep
You should go before the night time lets you down

[Chorus] Cause you’re the heart break that I couldn’t deal with
You were the mistake
That no-one could save me from
But I knowI’m better off leaving now
You are the only reason I want it more
You know I want to be on my own tonight
I just keep on running
You know I want to be on my own tonight
Tonight I let you go

Tonight I let you go
Heart break, heart break
Heart break (tonight I let you go)
Heart, heart break
Heart break, heart break, heart heart break
Tonight, heart break
Heart break, heart break, heart break, heart break, heart break
I just keep on running
You’re the heart break
I couldn’t deal with
You were the mistake that no-one could save me from
But I know I’m better off leaving now

You are the only reason I want it more

You know I want to be on my own tonight
I just keep on running
You know I want to be on my own tonight
Tonight I let you go

Tonight I let you go

Tonight I let you go

Emailing Band

To actually be able to use the song from the band, I had to email them. Here is a screen shot of it;

New Band.

As I have decided to leave the group, I went back onto unsigned.com and found a new song that I thought I could come up with a good story to. The song I have chosen is, The Colours- Tonight I Let You Go.

Decision to leave the group.

Due to several different reasons I thought that it would be in my best interest to leave the group I was placed in and go alone to make my music video. This therefore means that I have decided to go away and find a new song, not only this but come up with the ideas of the story line myself as well as shooting the film and editing it; producing a digipak and magazine advert along with this.

People in our video!

Charlie

Above we have a picture of Charlie who is playing the role of the 'boyfriend' in the video. He will be the druggy who sends out his girlfriend to get money in order for him to get his stuff, and he will look really bruised with puffy eyes and will basically look a state.

Georgie
Above we have a picture of Georgie who is actually myself. She will obviously be playing the 'girlfriend' in the video and is in a relationship with Charlie. In the video it will show her not looking her best, dressing up in clothing that makes her look like a tart, flaunting herself and putting herself through prostitution; this will happen on various occasions.

Shots of editing parts of our video.

Here are several shots in which show Charlie and Liam editing scenes of our video.

Shots of shooting our video.

Below are several images in which were taken to show snap shots of us filming certain parts of our video.

Useful ideas

Just as we met up to get ourself a camera out in order to go and carry out our filming, Liam informed me and Charlie that he had watched a film and thought a particular element that as carried out would be good for us to use in our video. This is the trailer on youtube for 'There's something about Mary';

This clip basically shows a man sitting on a tree, with a guitar singing a song. As we are going to use a guitar in our film for Charlie to sing with we thought that it would be a good idea if we got him sitting in the tree singing to the song with me and another boy called Charlie walking along the grass holding hands. We would use a pan shot when the camera starts from a low angle and then finally increases so it sets up Charlie sitting up in the tree.

Weather

Today before filmimg I decided to look at the weather forecast to make sure that it isn't raining, as I wouldn't be able to film it due to me placing the location outside.
